About ASA Plastic
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a thermoplastic terpolymer that combines the processing ease of ABS with dramatically improved outdoor durability. The acrylate rubber component replaces the polybutadiene rubber found in ABS, providing exceptional resistance to UV radiation, weathering, and oxidation — without the yellowing and surface degradation that ABS experiences after prolonged outdoor exposure.
ASA maintains its mechanical properties, gloss, and color over extended outdoor lifetimes, making it the preferred choice for applications that must retain aesthetic appearance under harsh environmental conditions. It offers a good balance of rigidity, toughness, and chemical resistance, with processing characteristics similar to ABS — allowing easy integration into existing production lines.
ASA is available in a wide range of colors and can be produced in opaque, translucent, or matte surface finishes. It is compatible with co-extrusion alongside PVC, PC/ASA blends, and other engineering resins for enhanced performance profiles.
ASA Grade Types
Standard ASA
General-purpose grades offering excellent UV and weather resistance for outdoor structural and aesthetic components. Ideal for replacement of ABS in exterior applications.
High-Flow ASA
Optimized for thin-wall injection molded parts and complex geometries. Maintains core UV and impact properties while enabling faster cycle times.
Glass-Filled ASA
Glass fiber reinforced grades providing increased stiffness, dimensional stability, and heat deflection temperature for structural outdoor components.
ASA/PC Blends
Alloys with polycarbonate that deliver improved heat resistance and impact strength while retaining ASA's superior weatherability. Common in automotive exterior trim.
ASA/PVC Co-extrusion Grades
Formulated specifically for co-extrusion with PVC profiles in window frames, roofline products, and exterior cladding. Provides a UV-stable cap layer.
Flame Retardant ASA
UL94 rated grades for outdoor electrical enclosures, junction boxes, and telecom equipment requiring both weather resistance and fire safety.
