About LDPE Plastic
LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) is a highly flexible, semi-crystalline thermoplastic produced by high-pressure free-radical polymerization. Its characteristic long-chain branching results in a lower density (typically 0.910–0.940 g/cm³), reduced crystallinity, and greater flexibility compared to HDPE. These structural properties make LDPE the material of choice wherever softness, elongation, and conformability are required.
LDPE offers good chemical resistance to acids, bases, and alcohols, though it is less resistant to hydrocarbons and oxidizing agents than HDPE. Its low moisture vapor transmission rate makes it an excellent barrier material in packaging films. LDPE also exhibits outstanding low-temperature flexibility, retaining toughness down to -60°C, which is critical for cold-storage and frozen-food packaging.
LDPE is primarily processed by blown film extrusion, cast film extrusion, extrusion coating, and injection molding. It is compatible with co-extrusion alongside other polyolefins, EVA, and barrier resins. FDA-compliant grades are widely available for direct food contact, and specialty grades include anti-static, UV-stabilized, and slip/antiblock formulations for film applications.
LDPE Grade Types
Blown Film Grades
The largest application segment for LDPE. Produces packaging films, shrink wrap, produce bags, and industrial liners. Available with slip, antiblock, and anti-static additives.
Cast Film & Extrusion Coating Grades
High-clarity, smooth surface grades used for lamination, extrusion coating on paper/foil, and stretch wrap. Excellent heat-seal properties.
Injection Molding Grades
Higher MFI grades for squeeze bottles, closures, flexible containers, and soft-touch consumer products requiring both clarity and pliability.
Wire & Cable Grades
Clean, low-contamination grades with excellent dielectric properties for insulation and jacketing of low-voltage wire and cable. Meets UL and IEC standards.
FDA / Food Contact Grades
Compliant with FDA 21 CFR regulations for direct food and beverage contact. Used in food packaging films, produce bags, and medical device packaging.
Specialty & Compounded Grades
UV-stabilized grades for agricultural mulch film and greenhouse film; anti-static grades for electronics packaging; and EVA-rich grades for enhanced flexibility and adhesion.
